Rad Maternity Session

A couple weeks ago, my assistant Lauren asked me if I wanted to be a part of a little secret. Of course, I said yes in a heartbeat!!

Her sister, Jenn, and her husband were told earlier this year that they would be stationed in Japan for three years. THREE! And then a few months later they announced that they were pregnant! Talk about a crazy adventure ahead for them!

As a going away present, Lauren and Jenn’s husband surprised her with a maternity session as our studio Seed + Harvest. He even picked out her dress. How sweet is that!?

They wanted her to have some memories of this time before they headed off on their next adventure.

You guys, this surprise maternity session was beyond a dream. Take a look for yourself! Oh, and if any of you mama’s to be out there want to do a styled maternity session … I’m. All. In!!!

Ashley + Joe: Shaker Village Engagement

Love in a salon.

These two met in the salon where Ashley works. She was drawn to Joe instantly and he to her.  I don’t think they had any idea it could be more……but it proved to be everything. My mind was blown by the end of this engagement session. I want photos just. like. this. with Matt! like NOW!!! & I wanna wear the same exact dress! hahaha Weird? Maybe….

Jacobs Maternity Session

When you find a golden spot, and an even better couple to shoot! I’ve been so excited with how many inquiries I’ve gotten for Maternity Sessions lately. I knew this one was too good not to share with you all!!

Since adding on Mini Maternity sessions to our Newborn packages, I’ve loved getting to help show off the baby bumps before the little ones arrive! It gives me time to focus in on the sweet parents, and then to watch them transform as they love on their little bundle of joy.

I will forever cherish the photos I have of carrying Myla around. Levy, I hope you feel the same!

Laura Beth + John: Lexington Country Club

You know those moments when you see two people sharing genuine, God-given love and joy? Well, Laura Beth and John’s wedding was simply that – a day filled with incredible amounts of smiling and tearful laughter from the (hundreds) of guests who came to celebrate.

In every single moment, their love for one another poured out – the warming embraces, the small hand squeezes, and the ridiculously awesome dance moves.

Talk about a dream couple for us to work with. I have no doubt that everyone who knows Laura Beth and John, knows that they are gorgeous people both inside and out.

Laura Beth and John, it was an absolute honor to capture the beautiful images of your day. Your joy and love for one another is absolutely contagious. We could all learn a thing or two from a love that so purely cherishes and adores their partner.

I can’t get enough of these photos or this day!

Why You Should Take Family Photos

Besides The Fact That I Love Them…

Being photographers means we love photos, that’s pretty obvious. But you can bet every year that I ask other photographer friends to capture OUR moments, just like I get to capture yours!

Although Matt loves to be behind the camera, he sometimes can be a picture avoider (like really babe, another photo?) And of course Myla, while a complete ham, is too busy running around enjoying life to actually sit still for a moment. That means family photos don’t happen as often as you’d think for us. Yet, every year, I make a point to capture the three of us.

And here’s why you should make it a priority for your family too:

  1. You have too much going on to try and document every stage. Seriously though. None of us have the time in our day to day grind to stop and capture every growing and changing moment for our family. You want to actually enjoy your life and be in the moment. Not stress that you didn’t get photos for every celebration.
  2. Your kids are growing, and it’s not something you can stop. One day, I’m going to look around and Myla is going to be a teenager. So long terrible two’s (actually, no really, so long… I can do without some of this phase!) But for real, one day she is going to be all grown up. And I’m going to want the days of cuddles on the couch to come back. And same for your little ones. You’ve got to soak in the memories of them now, because Lord knows they won’t be little for long.
  3. It’s the one time you can look like a put together family (ha, but really.) Getting yourself together in the morning is one thing, let alone trying to get your whole squad to prepare for the day. Half the time, Myla walks out of the house in her PJs or wants to wear two different shoes (some battles you just let slide.) But hey, that’s life. Even if it’s just for one day, you can capture what looks to be a put together family.
  4. Your life may not be perfect, but it sure is beautiful. Because the truth us… it is. And it’s worth capturing. And you deserve to have a lifelong reminder of the beauty that fills your days.
  5. If that weren’t enough, just scroll through the Johnson’s family photos below. If that doesn’t convince you, I don’t know what will!

Selena + Michael: Lexington Country Club

The Cornett Wedding

One of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer is getting to witness the love between our brides and grooms. I couldn’t describe Selena and Michael more perfectly than Selena’s dad did:

“They are the perfect mix of ying and yang.”

Selena and Michael truly compliment each other so well. The entire day was filled with sincerity that only comes from the truest form of love.

And if they hadn’t already wrapped me up in their best day, Selena was the most attentive and caring bride I think we’ve ever gotten to work with! Clearly her day was all about her, yet she cared to ask how Matt and I were throughout the entire day.

Because of her, I added another 10 reasons why I feel blessed to call this my “job.”

Selena and Michael, after being across the United States, I am so glad you made it back to Kentucy. And I am even happier you found a place to call home, in the arms of one another.

This weather, and the fact that it’s September 1st, has me reflecting on all of the incredible sessions I got to shoot this summer! There’s just something about that carefree summertime feeling, that brings all the joy and ease when shooting lifestyle sessions.

Endless amounts of fun and laughter filled my summer months. I am so thankful for that!

Although wishing a farewell to summer isn’t easy, I must admit, I am PUMPED for Fall! Here’s to even snuggly-er photos and all the cuddly feels!
